replacing headrace bearings.

Post by bobberdave »

I've been putting this off for a while now, but decided today or all days would be good to do it.
I went out and started on the task of replacing the bearings in the headrace.

I've managed to get the top set out with no really problem, but the bottom one is a different matter.

Is there any 'easy' way of getting the bottom sets outer case out of the frame?
And is there a easy way to slide the other half of the yoke?

You would usually gently tap the lower frame races out from the top using a long screwdriver or something similar. Gently squarely knock the new one home with the aid of grease and let the top nuts do the rest of the job.

For the stem you could gently dremmel them off, to refit freeze the stem and heat the race if it is an interferance fit?

I was lucky with mine, a jolly good grease up did the trick.
