SO YOUR BIKE WON'T START EH!!

Any General info on Mechanics based on 'all' bikes...

ok well i have had a battery tester on the bat charged it up to the max and nothing so i charged it up tested it and it said the bat was ok..so i left it over night it was the same reading until everytime i push the ignition the power on the battery drops and then when i stop pushing it goes back up a relay is clicking as the ignition is pushed checked out the rectifiaor (not sure on spelling for that) nothing really burnt out i can hear a slight something going on in it so i think thats ok..guess i suppose its the starter which looks an absulute bi tch to get to so it may be a case of going to the garage :cry:£££££££ :cry:

You cant tell if your rectifier is shot, I know I couldnt tell mine was shot. You no lose wires or blown fuses at all do you?

sounds like you're having a bit of a nightmare there! the fact that theres a voltage drop when you hit the button suggests that the starter motor itself is trying to do something. but, if it was just the starter motor not turning the engine, you should still have been able to bump start it. Sorry if this is an obvious one but when you tried bump starting, were you "bouncing" off the seat when you released the clutch, and did the engine actually turn at all or just immediately lock the wheel?

I can see you're having no luck mate. I'm happy to take a look at it if u want me too my number is 07918182436.

If you can hear a clicking noise then chances are you're relay solenoid is ok. From all you've described though it is possible its just the battery.

Have you tried jump starting the bike of a car??

Also as chris said the wheel locking up is likely to b e down to your bump startuing technique - remeber you need to get enough speed up, bounce on the seat when you let the clutch out and most imporatntly the bike should be in second gear NOT first.

Also no offence guys but from what he's said so far there is no reason to take the plugs out - you would only do that if the engine was turning over but not starting.

i shall try bump starting it from the car give it another shot on the old bump start and then if not i will call out the SWB S.O.S helpline no. andrew and chris! thanks for your help so far guys you have been great, just that i dont like to ask for guys to come around cus i dont like to put you out but i shall give these last couple of tricks a go... so as i release the clutch i have to bounce on the back wheel :?:

it just lessens the resistance on the starter motor andy - even with a weak battery, with no compression the engine should spin fairly freely. which in turn would eliminate any more serious problem ie something stopping the engine actually rotating

don't worry about it mate - wouldn't offer if i didn't mind lending a hand.

With the bump starting best to find a slight downhill or have a mate to help push. Turn the ignition on, select 2nd gear and pull in the clutch, now push the bike and build up as much speed as you can, when you're going fast enough hop onto the bike side saddle (or if u have a mate to push stand up and then bounce down on the seat) whilst simultaneously letting out the clutch. This should make the engine turn over and hopefully start the bike. The idea of jumping on the bike is that unless you have some weight over the back wheel the compression of the engine will simply cause the back wheel to lock up, the back wheel has to have enough grip to force the engine to turn over. This is also the reason for selecting second gear as this effectively makes it easier to turn the engine over.

yeah but on a modern sports bike removing the spark plugs is a lot of effort to goto rather than just jump starting the bike from a car, remember mate some of us have actually left the fairing on our bike :wink: :lol:
also even if when u remove the plugs the engine doesn't turn over it doesn't actually prove anything cause if the battery was totally dead it still woundn't turn the engine over. Also georgie d hasn't said that anything has happened to the bike which should make us think that there is any serious mechanical fault.

it went bang and stopped running, thats generally a pretty good indication to me that something's amiss :wink: plus a 600 shouldnt be too hard to bump in 2nd

sorry, its easy for me to forget that whipping the plugs out on these plastic fantastics isnt an easy or two minute job like it is on mine :lol: i had trouble getting mine running after i built it up- found out after two weeks of running the battery flat that i had 2.5mm needles in 3mm emulsion tubes hence a very rich mix, lots of flames and bangs but very little running. even with a virtually dead battery it would turn over with the plugs out, and thats on a much bigger bike. Unfortunately i found that it would still spark too - i singed my eyebrows when a spark ignited the wet mix that blew out of a plughole :oops:

Sorry mate i must have missed something, when did the bike go bang and stop running?????? I thought georgie d just couldn't get it started.
