Great! Thanks guys this really helps, I've got some more options to look at, the top end is not the problem with the cbr125, as it can get 95mph, it's getting there and holding it that's the problem, i drive down from Exeter to the bike night's every Wednesday and I'm doing 60 without any problems, but it's a big shameful when your mates cruse passed at 120mhp one handed! I'm going for my theory this weekend if i can book it! (that's next!) and then in for my full test later. thanks for all your advice and as you say, I'll try and avoid the "statistics!" I've found an insurance company that will insure me for some good prices, so I'll put them to the test with some of your ideas!

I find it hard to believe that your cbr125r can get 95mph. I have a tomtom on my cbr125r and at the top speed on the flat i can get just 75mph. If you are doing 95mph that must be down a hill or not at all.
I passed my test over a year ago and i am now considering upgrading my bike! I have a cbr125r too. I am not sure what you are like on the road but if you haven't passed your test yet i wouldn't be thinking of getting a big bike immediately.
Also rember the speed limit is 70mph, seeing as your mate passed you at 120mph, don't you think that is not that sensible. I am getting a sv650s eventually as my cbr125r is no good for touring. I want a bike that i stick it in 6th and cruise on the twisties from oxford to torquay easily without high revs and excess engine strain.

I know what you mean about your mates passing you at 120mph but mine do it more around the 150mph mark lol
I had a CBR125r and I only got about a tone out it, but this is due to the bike being design for street not motorway, this is why it gets to around the 45 to 50 mph mark really fast

you only got a tonne out of it cause its a 125 not a superbike

Thanks mate! 95 was down telligraphe hill(sorry can't spell!), only tried it once, and don't plan to again! I've never seen anything shake that hard!

I just bought a vfr nc30 for my first big bike. Its great million times better than my 125 not stupidly fast but still shifts. Better build quality than an sv650 and its now 16 years old! Plus beats it in handling and IMO sounds better. lol probably not very impartial advice but meh I lvoe them.

have you ever owned an SV?
dont try to claim that honda build quality is superior because IMO its not, the electrics on all the 400's are fragile (reg/rec's anyone? commonly replaced with Yamaha items), the exhausts rust through on all of them NC23,24,29,30,35...... they're all mild steel, I'll try to find the thread started about the 3yr old cbr600 with buggered cams in warranty less tha 16k IIRC, I think we've heard that story before sometime (VFR750!!). have you had the pleasure of taking the carbs of a 30 yet? its not fun trying to get them on again, Oh, and dont forget taking the swingarm off to ge the exhaust out, I giggled for hours doing that one!!
anyway, fantastic little bikes them NC30's, find a good one and learn to do bends properly and you'll be set up for life.
the SV is a cracking bike as well, a bit more power than the 400's, a bit more weight but they do handle well and last well if it's looked after.
