sounds good, maybe the idea of friendly would be good if some of the members with smaller bikes want too come along,
i might even drag out one of the classic RD,s and end being sent to the back of the ride for choking everyone with 2 smoke . that is of course work permitting

Sounds good, obviously wait til spring to get the numbers there; suggest we meet somewhere like Launceston/Okehampton, perhaps somewhere with facilities (cos not everyone will arrive at the same time) & then ride out either South to Plymouth or North to Bideford.

am glad that it all seems positve at the mo, no point in making suggestions for a destination as of yet tho. i have somewhere in mind, only problem is not everyone is gonna be happy, mainly cos some will have to travel further and some not so far. its all very well suggesting eg bideford, but what about the ones who live in barny ?
originally the ride was looking at a 3 point start and a destination somewhere in the middle but as this is getting bigger what may have to happen is each area will have a seperate rideout and then all converge on one place at a specified time then all ride the last section together. what i will say tho is the last bit of the ride WILL BE AT POSTED SPEED LIMITS, i am saying this as i know some of you like to travel up around the 65mph mark and this just wont do when there are likely to be so many bikes with riders of varying abilities.
i will do what i can from this area but if between you one person from each area (cornwall, N.devon, Somerset+surrounding counties) to plan a route and answer any questions etc, that way i am only dealing with 4-6 people instead of 100.
we still have a few months to go before this happens but by the looks of things its gonna be a laugh.
thanks for your support

6 of us left st a,there was afew plymouth lads (jay n jason),some from exeter way (age) would have been more but k7dave n colin dropped out and then some lads came from torquay way. the meeting point was gt's as jaspers had roadworks, the idea worked well and was a good day out
you can only do that with small numbers though, similar bikes and people who have been riding for a long time which is why rides like that tend to just happen rather than being overly organised and promoted, once you get big numbers and varying ability then like billinom8s points out you have to moderate the speed (or the only thing that is sure is that lots of people will be riding over their head and at least 1 of them will crash).
like a few others here I wouldnt ride in a big group nor would I ride on anything that adhered to keeping even remotely close to the limit once you hit the lanes. That white circle with the black line through it means "start having fun now". I dont see the point in getting a bike out to ride in a procession at the speed limit - id rather take the car ,more comfy and a cd player.
If you organise the main ride to your eat spot and just make the eat spot and expected time of arrival known then the bikes that would never ride in a large organised group or would prefer to ride "unmoderated" can head there in a small pack(s) under there own steam and we can still all end up at the same place at the same time.
My main point would be dont do that thing of making the meet up timing such that people have to get on their bikes at stupid oclock in the morning, its cold, the roads are damp even on dry days, you really do have to ride slowly unless you want to end up on your ass. its just all round pointless and much worse than that it messes up your saturday night because it means you cant be drinking yourself into a stupor the night before.

This sounds like a good idea and having it in April is good as that is when my contract is up so I should be back in sunny devon and can meet all the new members I haven't yet been able to terrorise. I think it was the summer rideout a few years ago where we all went to a pre booked pub to eat. That was a good ride and it worked an absolute treat so could do something similar to that.
I would probably make the differing groups from each area leave it upto themselves if they want to ride at posted limits or not but say a posted limits ride would leave a place at a certain time to get to the pub at a certain time or they can go straight to the pub for a certain time. So then at least everyone gets to do a ride they wish to do and we all get to see eachother and have a knees up too.
I realise this means that we could have lots of differing rides happening on the same day and converging on 1 or 2 places, but if they are all posted up and coordinated so everyone can pick and choose then I don't see the problem.

Surely everyone could ride within the speed limits for one day

that still leaves 364 days for those who want to ride like hooligans
