One more point. Make sure your insurance covers you to ride with a pillion passenger.
A lot of companies will not cover this unless you specifically request it. If your policy does not specify pillion cover then you could be storing up loads of grief for yourself should you get stopped or be in involved in a funky.

Main thing is if your pillion pisses you off, piss them off with the open close throttle trick repeatedly, just lean forward so you dont get headbutted

Crank it right open and only stop once the screaming stops. It will mean that they have either fallen off or got used to it

When I started taking my son I just started to ride slower and smoother than normal. He holds one of those grab handle belts so is closer to me than he would be if he used a bike mounted grab handle so tends to lean with me more. My bike has a anti slip mat ( cant remember who makes them) to keep him on his seat more. Which is good as he weighs next to nothing. If he makes mistakes like the time he choose mid roundabout to sit back upright on his seat I just explain what he did wrong the next time we stop.

Problem is now is that I don't go fast enough for him but thats not going to change so he'll have to get used to it. Better to ease off than end up in a ditch or worse

Took my eldest daughter out this year for the first time and she loved it, i just rode normally except for cornering when i just slowed her up a bit more but otherwise accelerated as hard as i normally would overtaking and suchlike, didnt touch the suspension as she weighs next to nowt anyway, she was happy with both hands on my waist (good job as i have no grab handles) whereas the missus prefers the one hand on the testicles cruise control and a squeeze lets me know if i'm going too fast, of course this method isn't the preferred one if your taking your mum out for a spin........

We cut down a seat on a 50cc Cuba so much for a really tiny lady that she kept sliding off because it was angled forward so much, the blanket was the only solution!

I'm sure I've seen that antislip matting stuff in a cheapo shop somewhere...? Or a JML ad on telly maybe?

Can't really add any more than is already posted, other than get her some half decent gear (jacket/boots) - just as important for pillions IMO....

Did some checking and it is a tribo seat cover that is on the pillion seat. they are tailered sort of for each bike and tighten up underneath with string.

I agree with all of the above, except that if they can let go long enough to punch your kidneys because you are going too fast ...then you ain't going fast enough.
I take my Mrs on the back of my Busa and give it beans and she couldn't hang on to the grab rail without her feet coming up off the pegs and she found herself loosing her grip when trying to hold onto me so we bought the "pillion pal" belt also known as "love handles" and they really work well even (when on a private road officer) power wheelieing in third at about 130 she still wasn't complaining.
Our only other tips would be to make sure that she has the right gear, I wouldn't ride fast with a pillion unless they had full leathers (the wife always wears a two piece leathers) gloves and boots. I've come off at quite modest speeds whilst in my teens and wasn't wearing leathers and the resultant gravel rash means that I now always wear leathers so would want my pilion to do the same.

I always use "love handles" when taking my daughter on the back and tap her on the leg if i am going to be doing some hard accelerating . Never been as fast through corners as i have when she has been on the back

Got to say love handles to work well, my ex still has mine, along with my virginity, dignity and a few other things

No, not really. Just think mr jap has spent millions of yen perfecting the handling of modern sportbikes, I don't want to ruin it by plonking a 9st dead weight on the back!!

Also wouldn't offer the pillion seat of a 2007 R6 to my worst enemy!!! (probably why I removed the pillion pegs/ rear seat)
