Good post Skez and so very, very true. Afraid there are people who have never lived this sort of life who do not understand it. They are normally the type of people who live in comfort and have never had to wash with others, eat on a large moving platform etc.

Call me biased (no please dont actually

) but I think servicemen and women! have the best sense of humour around. We can always laugh at someone elses adversity and cock ups because we know that its either happened to us or will do at some stage.

As for the gay thing. They have been in the RN for a very long time and I think it would be churlish for any matelot to think they have not slept in the same messdeck as one in their naval career. Loads of them came out of the closet when the Admiralty finally gave in to public pressure and made it legal, but not compulsory.

As for whitetrash's comment about someone being gay but not wanting to screw you. Ever seen what happens in prison mate when a group of blokes are locked up for months without any females about. Sexual frustration occurs with no prizes for guessing the outcome. I was on a ship many years ago when one of the blokes was forcing himself on the younger members of the ships company and using his postion of power to get away with it. He was caught eventually.

I dont really think all sailor are gay, but I'd never say that in front of them.

I known gay people and count them as friends, and we are quite good friends with a leslie ann couple, they make jokes about it as well. ( I get some enviouse looks when out with three girls.

i too know a few gay people and dont look at them any differently......and actually find that all the gay men and women are extremely funny(not to look at lol)......
Best line ive heard was when i was on a massive sun seeker boat owned by 2 gay men.....who are friends of my dad and one of them went for a swim.....ten minutes later his partner shouted out at him "greg,get ya arse in here,im hungry"...which i spat my orange juice everywhere......

but it annoys people that seem to be very proud and gay.....loud about it like in ya face......see no point in it but all ends the same with them getting a beating lol
