I got mine done in Crewkerne, it's great - really clean lines, much tidier than some of my mates. I think the blokes name is Dave or Steve, can't remember, but his shop is in town near Somerfield. Would definately recommend him.

[quote="steve-d"]On the subject, do tattoos hurt? Or does it depend on where they are done, hear so many different things.quote]
YES!
I finally got to have my first one done on the inside of my left forearm about 6 months ago. In colour and its starts at my wrist. The further up my arm they went the more it hurt. " hours of sheer hell

Bit like being married

They all hurt to some degree.
But like said it all depends on the person.
I have fallen asleep wile being inked but when on my chest bone it hurts like hell

but not for long.
A good tattooist will work in a way to give your brain time to fire up the endorfins in the area they are working.
If that make sence.
A good rule is the thinner the skin layer the more it hurts.
If you want an idea of the pain. Its like writing in sun burn with a ball point pen.
And DONT use blue gel or Amitop. A good tattooist will refuse to work the skin due to the way they work. and if you think you wont tell them. Well that will be when you find out how good they are or not.
Sorry if this is boring but I have seen to many bad tattoos from so called top tattooists.
Cheers

Sorry gotta disagree with the comment about not going to a tattooist who is cheap....I used to go to Louie Malloys tat shop when he was pretty much just starting up and had a full back tat done for the Tattoooist Convention thats held every year...the tattoo cost me £100 at the time but after he won awards for best black and white, best colour and about three more for other stuff then he could pretty much charge what he wanted for a tattoo...then he did the tattoo on Beckams back and other celebs and finally ends up on London ink and now that size tat he did on my back is in the region of £3,000......everyone who has a skill/talent and is just starting up has to charge a more realistic price than someone who is already established in that craft, so they can get people interested in what they can do .

I think you missed the point.
So a cheap tat will be done but a novice with no reputation ( bit of a gamble if you get a good one that will not be overworked and turn into a nice green/yellow pus ball )
Or you pay the going rate or more for a tattooist with a good rep and proven work.
And yes you can pay top notes and get a shit tat.

Before I got my first tattoo done I carried the design around in my wallet for nearly a year, after which time I still liked it and still wanted it done. Admittedly it was a bit of a long winded way of doing it but I figured whats a year wait if its going to be on you for the rest of your life

.
Four tatts later, ( fifth coming soon!), I guess you could say I was hooked!
And they all hurt, some more than others! My suggestion is to eat a mars bar or similar just before you get it done, the sugar helps if you get woozy, and take a bottle of water and sip it while the tattooist does his or her thing, works for me cos I nearly always go majorly white and sweat like a bar steward

( yes I'm a big girly wuss

)!
