All these opinions on what happens to your skin if you don't wear leather ... Well, I agree... But not always ...
Fact (No Bullsh!t) ... Riding a GS750 along the Autobahn in Germany in 1979, I was hit by a crosswind on a viaduct ... I was travelling at over xxxmph...
I had a highside and slid in the centre lane, with my bike beside me in the fast lane, for what seemed an eternity, I kept turning over every time I got a hot spot ... Got up, picked up the bike and rode 2 hours to hospital.
In the hospital I was diagnosed as having broken ribs, punctured lung, broken wrist, and a broken leg...But no skin rash at all
What wear you wearing I hear you say ? ... Levi Jeans, Textile jacket, trainers, gloves and helmet ... Guess I was lucky ... Wouldn't want to try it again though ...

Just a shame it didn't knock any sense into you Nick
This argument starts up every summer .... everyone has their own opinion and everyone has a right to choose what to wear.
Only thing I object to is kids on pillion in less than full gear.

my mind not only wanders ... sometimes it leaves completely

I guess you where going so quick that you bounced as opposed to slid Nick!
I have had the unfortunate experiance of a farily low speed crash off an RD350YPVS whilst just in a T-shirt.
I had road rash on my elbow, lower back and hip and palms - the hip road rash was the most painfull by a long way because it would rub easily and hurt when I sat down.
that said it wasnt the end of the world, and I still occasionally ride in just a T-shirt.

Have to disagree with that. As someone has already stated: anything over the skin is better then nothing.
I've had a couple of crashes whilst wearing denim and they have stood up suprisingly well leaving me with minimal gravel rash. (note: these crashes happened when I was young and still learning.)
Obviously if I'm going for a quick ride, I'll get leathered up but for a spin to the shops jeans/ jacket/ boots / gloves/ helmet is fine for me.

I'm sorry but I agree with mattr6. I remeber somebody saying I should always wear my jeans when riding. But then that could have been because of the weather and jeans kept me warm even when soaked through
. Anyway if we stuck you on a bike and told you, you were going to crash and you can either wear some shorts or some jeans, which would you pick?
