I can help with general stuff but not Triumph specific things as I've only used it on my KTM 990.

Get yourself registered on the Tiger 800 forum, post your problem on there and wait for the help from various experts. My good friend T800XC works with TuneECU and Tiger Tool, and is a diagnostic whizz. Rewired my 45 year old Suzuki but specialises in Triumphs

Before I need help with anything specific to my bike I need help with getting a "set up" to use. Cheap tablet suggestions? Thanks for all the help so far

I have used tune ECU for years on Triumphs. Originally so I could reset the service light. It doesn't run on the latest android phones and tablets. I generally run it from my circa 5 year old smart phone which works well.

So an old tablet or phone is best. Looking to get a setup as cheap as possible it would solely be for use of TuneECU. Id like to getmy bike hooked up to it as I have recently read that someone with simular issues as mine managed to sort it by clearing a few codes.
Once I'm familiar with program would like look into a few things like sensors and throttle balance then of course seeing what current map the ecu has and maybe updating it.

I looked at throttle balance with tuneECU on my 990 (vtwin).... Forget it!
The live update is way too slow and the values weren't stable enough to work with.
The next thing to concider is whether it's best to have the throttles actually balanced (real vacuum comparison) or adjusted so the sensors are the same when idling (though the actual vacuum might not be).
Personally I'd just do it with a gauge but only if I could disable secondary butterflies (if fitted).

Thanks for the heads up, now I have to research about throttle balance to understand your reply

Im not at all experienced or have any knowledge about this kind of thing but I would like to in time.
Thanks again for your reply

On the ktm 990 you're not supposed to mess with it (factory set according to the workshop manual).
Many owners said they adjusted theirs and got better / smoother low end throttle response so I decided to give it a try.
That's when I found out TuneECU wasn't fast enough, at least not for a v twin.
Next I bought some small bore hose, put some oil in it and fixed it to a plank (I made a gauge to balance a twin). I used that and sure enough the balance was out so I adjust it to make it equal. Then I took the bike from a test ride and it was horrible, there was now a flat spot when rolling on the throttle after coasting.
When I got the bike back home I put the guage back on and watched the oil level and sure enough I could see the imbalance as soon as you start to open the throttle. So I set the balance back to the factory setting and all was good again.
The only thing that I can think of that could cause this is the secondary butterflies, which the Ecu controls. These might have been messing up the vacuum readings. So I guess on my bike the only way to set the balance is to permanently delete the secondary butterflies, or maybe also balance them separately.
