Its been stood for 6 months, and started yesterday first kick.
Bike runs for about a minute and sounds like its ran out of fuel. It will not start again until several hours have passed. Again it starts and the same thing happens again.
Any suggestions please as to where to start ?

Hmmmmm,sounds like fuel starvation.

the carb would be a good place to start - check the jets aren't blocked
and clean it if needs be.

SPARK PLUGGGGGGGGG,

a stroker stops . first thign to chech is the spark plug. if its not that let us know.

Yup checked spark plug and its sparking well, i guessed carb would be next. I know the carb looks basic but i,m no wiz on small intricate parts, whats in there to loose or break (to a new bike mechanic like me )

If you have cleaned the plug, if you pull it after a few kicks is it camp? if it is you have fuel ..... if dry, then you don't

Before you start stripping the carb, pull the feed pipe off the petrol tank fuel tap and make sure there's fuel coming out there Also make sure the tank breather is working OK (this will either be part of the fuel cap itself, or a separate pipe out of the tank)

If you still do not have petrol, time to look at the carb ..... first off remove the float bowl and make sure it's clean (usually 4 screws on the bottom of the carb). Once that's done (carefully) remove the pin that holds the float in place (easy to snap one of the legs here, so go carefull) and you will see the float valve needle and main jet. The main jet unscrews, and you can give it a good blow through. Spraying the whole area with carb cleaner might be good - if it's been sat a while the evaporating fuel may have left a varnish like glaze on everything. Also blow through from the fuel inlet pipe to make sure that fuel can actually get in there, and make sure the throttle slide moves smoothly and freely.

Once all clean and tidy, re-assemble and try again

it may spark but doesnt mean its got enoug of a spark to kick it over. but yeh ;ike moose said. whip da pplug out. dry it off (dont bend the contact arm) and stick it back in and kick it over. take it out. if its wet. u got fuel, if its dry. u aint.

Check fuel tap,
make sure u got petrol,
check fuel lines make sure not blocked.
undo the drange screw on da carb.

the wet plug thing only works if you turn the key off, other wise it'll start, just thought i'd point that out

what do you want to know?

great starter bikes all my mates had them, very few are still 50cc most are overbored

for an mot main thing is wheel bearing and lights work ect fork seal?

I was once told "Always check the simple things first, even if it seems too obvious"

I know very little about the bike, but when the fuel tap is pointing up its on reserve and what looks like on is actually off ?

I never actually thought it at the time, because the previous owner couldnt understand why it wouldnt run and assured me it was the correct way round.

Anyway all sorted just needs a bulb, battery and i,ll check the above (thanks) and see how we get on

Least it's sorted now. Better to be something like that than something that'll cost you money.
