...out of a fireblade or r1?
im talking around the 1998 shape ones and cant make my mind up what i would prefer!
both got their pro's and cons but i love them both and cant afford to have both unfortunately
ive ridden a fireblade and loved it but never been on an r1.
if it was anything like my r6 ill love it

I would get an R1. Isn't the 1998 R1 supposed to be one of the most fun bikes to ride?

Choosing from those 2, the R1. Just loks a bit more modern.

i would absolutely cream my pants if i could get one in this colour but its hard finding a tidy one without a million miles on it!

R1 deffo. They're stupidly quick. My old man's got one (he's in his 50's) and says he shats himself everytime he's opens her up.
Shats himself with fun, of course

Bless him. He says, and I quote, 'Needs a steering damper as tank slappers at a tonne can be a bit squirrely'.

Surely on a 9 yr old bike it's down to condition/mileage etc. Be open minded & get the best bike you can find.
As for the Blade, the 98/99 model is the best 16" wheel model ever made, people think they went soft but they were the fastest & lightest blade pre-injection ones made. Also I think 98 was one of their best selling years & beacause the thrashers bought R1s you could probably find a beauty for less than £3k. (talking as an ex 93 & 98 Blade owner).
Good R1s of that era are getting rare & are probably going to hold their value.
Just kep your eye out for a good bike but also consider a post SRAD GSXR750 - probably as fast as either of the above in the real world but cheaper to insure.

out of those two id rather have the blade.
R1s of that sort of era have distinctly dubious handling. (although they do look quite good)
Although for that sort of money you could get a just as quick (if not quicker) and infinately better handling and more modern K1/K2 GSXR 750. Which would also be a miles better bet if you wanted to ever trackday it.

I would so go for the R1. I once saw the fireblade race agaisnt the lynx helicopter and the blade won, if the R1 is faster then GOD DAM

. Mind you I think R1s are a little common.

i had the 1999 blade, as my last road bike, and was an outstanding bike, and reasonably comfortable, the R1 is quicker, but for the road i would have the blade, and i think it just edges it on looks, ive also raced the 98 R1 and they do go well but just a little too track orientated for the road IMO

Never rode a Fireblade but I've rode Simons R1, It's a quick bike (for a girls bike ;) ) although the front can be a little twitchy, I'd say the R1 still looks awesome for it's age. The Blade looks a tad dated imo.
Get the R1.
