New Year Biking Resolutions

Now, I don't normally go in for the whole New Years resolution thing. I believe that if something can be changed for the better then it should be done right away, not just when the year rolls over! :D

However, whilst washing the thick film of winter crud from my beloved machine yesterday I did find myself thinking of the biking year ahead, and of all the things I want to try and do on two wheels.

So, I thought I'd share them with you all so that you may chip in with your biking New Years resolutions too! Come December 31st 2008 we can look back on this thread and see how we all got on! Oo-er!

Here's mine then:

1. To prove to myself that 'smoother is faster'. By that I mean that I want to focus less on riding fast, and more on riding smart. I'm sure that it's true that fast riding is a by-product of smooth riding and, is therefore safer than simply ragging it. I need to develop those skills some more.

2. After 1 above - to tear up the Pyrenees! Or maybe I'll finish doing the first resolution on the Pyrenees?

3. To get on more rideouts with you lot. I had a great time this year - when the weather played nice. I'm looking forward to more of the same next year!

4. To do a trackday. I'm inherently fearful of stacking my bike though. Not really because of possible injury to myself, but because I really need my bike! I use it for commuting, fun, everything! To be without it due to a trackday spill would be a real pain in the butt.

Your go...

1. Try and ride smoother - tis getting there, feels a lot more 'flowing' lately

2. Find some new routes/roads, go on longer rides - maybe meet up with a few more from on 'ere! :)

3. Pyrenees - already done a 2000 miler down thru France and loved it. Would like some more challenging roads 8)

4. Try to remember why I work so bl**dy hard, and get to enjoy the things I've always wanted to do!

1) Learn how to handle bike to take corners without mid turn corrections.

2)Increase lean angle. I am not saying knee to the floor but somewhere close on a trackday.

3)Maybe do roadcraft or advanced test.

4) Ride more as I have only clocked up 600miles on the sv in 6 months of ownership.

ricky no 1 will improve the chances of 2
and if you do no2 with instruction that will help with 1 and 2 so 1 trackday will help with all 3 issues

and no 4 you'll be so happy you'll want to ride more LOL

there you go,hope that helps

No 3 (Advanced course) will teach you more than all of the rest.

-stop buying any more bikes as "projects" and finish the ones I've already started

-ride them occasionally instead of just spanner-monkeying :)
