Has anyone ever popped over to Ireland on the bike?

If so where did you go, & what did you get upto?

I've got a possible 3/2 days over there with a hired gsx750f with my girlfriend, other option is to visit Wales...

Thanks in advance.

Hi nomad
I did a 5 day tour last year. roads are good and very quite. Irish seem to pull over to let bikes past too. I avoided the Dublin City (could be any city, anywhere nowadays) The advice I got was to do an anti clockwise route and I believe this worked out best for traffic and sites etc.
Places I would recommend

Kilkenny
The Ring of Kerry
Galway

Boring places
Athlone
Waterford

Everything is catered toward the USA visitors I found and it can only become moreso in the future so "authentic" Ireland is hard to find. I would go sooner rather than later if you are considering it.

Look out for the ferry discounts in MCN or on their website from time to time.

have a safe trip

 My family are from Waterford, its not so bad but you wouldnt want to be touring to it. Alot of cities in ireland are quite dull though. personally I think places like Cork are almost depressing. Nice scenery in parts though.

Dublin is ok for a night on the piss - but it doesnt really have much charm. Recently I seem to spent most of my time over there in Belfast (work reasons) - interesting to see the falls and shankill road, and if you stay in the Europa hotel you have the gimmick of saying that you have stayed in the most bombed hotel in the world. Other than that I cant see why you would go out of your way to see it.

Personally I wouldnt bother if you dont have family ties there, a hop across to mainline Europe is much more interesting, and I say that as someone with an Irish family.....Maybe its just a familiarity thing, and I havent got around to seeing the more "touristy" side of it.
