Depending on where its gone in
if its the sidewall, or very close to the edge you cant do this!
But usually most bike shops will plug the hole, which is a good repair, some people have questioned the strength of these but others have went 160mph and it still held up.
So tyre plug id say usually around 20 quid mark in a local bike shop.

1. As said above, if it's near the centre of the tread get it plugged - but be warned many tyre places will not plug a ZR rated tyre ......
2. What sort of/size tyre is it that costs £160 .... I'd be expecting a pair for that

Nothing wrong with a proper repair in a tyre, I've done loads over the years. I prefer the damage to be in the centre 60% of the tyre and the obstruction must have pierced the tyre as near to 90deg to the tyre rather than at an angle, but a repair carried out with the correct type of 'plug/mushroom' should easily last the life of the tyre. Legally you can repair a tubeless rear tyre twice, but I'd rather only use one. I don't usually repair fronts unless the puncture is dead square in the middle. Most tyre centres will repair it if you take the loose wheel into them.

Yep I've repaired loads. Just as long the customer knows it's their decision. I'd much rather plug mine than buy a new tyre.

Thanks for the replies.
The nail's just of centre. The tyre make is a ZR17 Pirelli dragon supercorsa pro. Now just have to find someone who will do it at short notice. If that fails, i could steal the old mans blade for Sun

Had it done twice myself, never received any paperwork or receipts either time from either place, covering tracks just in case methinks. Held up fine both times though

Always keep a small can of Tyre Weld on-board, has worked for me many times in the past and seen the tyre through to finally wearing out

I run on Avon Vipers. They replace the tyre if you haven't used more than the first mm. No questions asked includes accidental damage too I believe.

it depends on where the nail is in the tyre. if its in a 'safe' area i simple repair for like 20/30 quid or so can be done..where they stick i rubber mushroom out through the inside of the tyre which seals up the hole. or you could try some duck tape?

Got a nail in my back tyre a few days ago (I say nail... more like a huge stud) took it into college and got a mushroom repair done on it, I was told it lowers the speed rating by one rating though, just so you know. I realise this post is a bit late but oh well
