I can't believe the police won that case, thats just absolutely ridiculous. I hope the riders are appealing the decision in the high courts. The law is an ASS

It'll never stand up, they have only been charged so far.

Badger as funky says they have only been charged at the moment,
Funky I sure hope that is right but in this day and age of stupid laws they dig up you never know,
and the consequences for ride outs well lets hope it does not happen

I'd like to know how the law feels that other riders made the deceased do what he did, how can they be responsible for someone else's actions?

I'm going to rock things here and say I think the police have a very strong case. Not a good or valid case but a strong one.

How many times have you witnessed a rider taking chances to keep up with other bikes, whether as a couple of bikes or a group. Rather than think they'll catch up on next straight/traffic lights etc someone always rides like a sheep and does something silly to keep up riding beyond their limits - it happens.

Also, what would you think if you saw a group of hot hatches running together, making progress in traffic, your reaction would probably be 'bl00dy idiots' - that's how the public/police see us when we're in a group doing the same.

Sod's law, this case here is probably being brought against a sensible ride out who are a victim of circumstances rather than some idiots riding beyond their control - we'll never know.

Two are riding without insurance - would normally question people shirking their responsibility but then again I see some people make real cock ups when arranging stuff on-line, could be non-disclosed modifications/carrying pillions when they said they wouldn't etc.

Utimately this is an easy case for the police to win - taxpayers with assets/finance, rather than pursuing the drug users, theives, illegals & scum of society who many to live outside of & dodge the law.

Rant over, see the Cornish ones next weekend for a rideout - sorry, various meets at various locations around the area.

some lessons to be learnt from this, biggest one is if you are ever involved in such a thing watch what you say,
cos things can be held against ya, and never put anything up on the net about how you are going to proceed on a rideout that sugests you are going to be running outside of the law/doing something stupid, (as if we would we are all law abiding citizens that stick to the limits and stop and help old ladies across the road are we not chaps) if it can be used against you if something happens, It is all circumstantial but they will use it too try and sway a judge /jury etc,

Well thats lucky we are all responsible riders on SWB eh :D , and we will proceed in a safe and passive manner, life savers and extra hand signals everyone ;) ...

This isn't the first time this has happened is it - there was another case like this last year, where a group ride went hay-wire, and the certainly the leader of the group was charged, on the basis they were setting the pace which encouraged another person to ride beyond their limit :-?

I agree with Graham- I can see the argument they're using, and can see that with a suitably minded judge and jury they could make it stick ...... still a complete nonsense though  I guess its another way to try and cut down the breakfast run groups ........
