I recently had the tracking done on my golf and have had the ESP light come up on the dash.
Anyone got any ideas, tricks, methods of getting rid?

Thanks

Start it up with the wheels straight ahead, then turn to full lock left then right, may just need the steering angle sensor re aligning,

Weird how it's just come on though, no abs trying to kick in or anything??

Hate to say this but the pressure sensor in abs pump pack up , if this is the case then vw are known to chip in with the costs :|

tried that ian, no luck :(

had a look around net and it says something about the light being triggered if the wheels are set out of neutral. if they are more than a few degrees out then it fires out this warning. anyone heard of this ?

i hope not nick, i just looked online and they run at £800 !

I'm finding the same bad news. Seems there was a move towards a re-call at some stage, and if dealer serviced, some got funding from VW.
Most mention ABS sensor. Seems too much of a coincidence to me...yes I know they happen.
How long ago was the tracking done? I'd start off with a quiet word with whoever did it.

Abs pumps/modules can be repaired by ecu testing Bolton for around £165, and a second hand one is about £50,

Won't know till plug it in. Can bring down diagnostics if ya want at some stage?? Give me a message if ya want,

I had a Seat Ibiza Cupra which is a similar generation to the Mk4 Golf.

Had a couple of issues such as coil packs, which once replaced, would still need the EML reset. Whilst yours is the ESP light and it's not ideal, I was able to turn the light off by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes.

You will need to reprogram the stereo & auto windows, If there was a fault, it would re-appear.

Might be worth looking into this as an option.

Of course I accept no responsibility when it goes completely TU!!

eta - could the tracking company have simply dis-lodged or damaged an ABS/TCS sensor?

I have a basic OBD code reader which can clear fault lights in case it's just a glitch

Cheers layne. gonna look into getting the steering reset as the steering wheel has been left well off centre by the tracking 'mechanic'.

see if putting it back to the correct position will get rid of the problem.

Hi,,

I would get the faults read before anything else if you haven't already, I used to work for Audi and we used to get cars coming in with warning lights on the dash, when they codes are read a lot of the time the fault doesn't actually relate to the light that come on, but because there is a fault it just brings a warning on the dash, all the ECU's run through each other in some way.

as an example, we used to get the coil warning light come on, 9 times out of 10 it was the brake pedal switch that was at fault but as there isn't a light for that it brings something else on instead.

I do have contacts to get scanning done cheaply as I am in the motor trade but as I'm in Bristol it probably isn't much help to you

took it to save on tyres today to get tracking checked properly - turns out one side 13 degrees out, the other 11 degrees out.
now back to zero as near as dammit, one drive to teignmouth, turn off engine, turn it on again - no more light.

i guess it doesn't always pay to support your local tradesman :(
