I went out on the bike 3 days later with AndyCBR, and the ride to Lynton seemed ok, but not right, however the ride back was cool

You are just a bit rusty Speedy, i struggled to get on my SLR when i first got it, the bleedin thing was so high i could not lift me leg high enough, a few weeks riding it and i can now lift me leg up no problem, if you dont want to be hangin over the tank then get summat like a XJR 1300 with a more upright riding position

Speedy - see my comments on the 'Cool Vid' thread - theres alot of 'Super Nakeds' available now, as much fun as a sportsbike but without the 180mph liability.

I don't think you have to be old to have these feelings!

Heck I just sold my Bandit and will probably get a dedicated track bike in a couple of years!

Road riding just isn't safe IMO. Not only do you have to worry about yourself, you have to worry about other road users, drains, mud dodgy road surfaces!

Yes you can die from many things, including crossing the road, but I have a habit of conducting risk assessment quite often and I believe that riding is more likely to get you killed or very hurt!

It hits me more as my parents are quite often on the bike at the same time with my Mum pillion, if they crash and die I am fecked! I have to look after my 15 year old sister and myself, it just aint worth thinking about.

Therefore I think I might have given up road riding and going to get a track bike, yes you can die on the track, but the risk is a LOT lower.

got to agree with you there jon, im stepping up the search for a trackbike not even worried if its got a v5 anymore. just want abike to have fun on and the roads around here arent going to be any fun now the silly season is upon us

tell you teh truth I used to like all the shine and glym of cruisers in my younger youth - but since having a few sports bikes I cant stand em - maybe change my mind when im over 60, smoking a pipe and cant go anywhere without me slippers and portable bog

I've never seen the point of giving up road riding and buying a trackbike, I'd rather ride more than 2-10 times a year thanks.

i'm with dynamight on this one - if you can give up road riding and just ride on a track every now and again, maybe you either want to ride everywhere flat out and can't deal with having to ride according to the coditions/traffic on the road; or you just actually only quite like biking, rather than absolutely love it, and so wouldn't miss it that much if you didn't do it very often. not knocking either of those by the way - everyone rides/owns a bike for different reasons, and you make your own mind up whether what you get out of it is worth the risk..

How does that equate to loving bikes more? Some people might race bikes because they just like the thrill of a race?

my whole life is working with bikes, i have a dream job and spend 5 days a week working in all the bike dealers and indepent buisness in the s west, i spend my spare time on here,visordown and other bike related forums.
i cant use a bike for work any more so maybe only get a good ride once a month,the roads and conditions are a big problem but dso is the lack of intelligent road users, cars and bikes for that matter. im just as bad sometimes so i personally would rather be able to go flat out,knee down everywhere i want too and do it on a race track in a safe controlled enviroment than take the risks off being on the roads.
weve all the read the threads on here of biker down/another 1 gone etc but you never read biker killed on a trackday do you ??
i'd love to be able to race but cant commit the finances to it but i can do a trackday here and there once ive got £200 in my back pocket, in fact i can book another 2 up once ive cancelled my insurance and no longer have a mot and rip off road tax to pay lol reading this thread and commenting on it has only made me want to give up road based sports bikes even more now, funny how the internet affects you aint it
