I booked the XRT in for an MOT friday of this week - even though it was still in several bits at 9.00 this morning; thought it might spur me on into action and get it sorted

pretty much there now - except the rear master cylinder which won't return to its starting position

hopefully bob wright in Weston Super Mare will have a rebuild kit that i can pick up in my lunch break tomorrow, so I'll have from when I get home at about half 7 to get it rebuilt in time to take it over friday morning. Oh yeah and all the electrics went dead when i put it back in the shed - think its just a fuse where I left a spade connector on the brake light wires exposed and its shorted out. Fingers crossed it is anyway....

here it is though, in all its hideous glory

photos make it look a bit "better" than it actually is, as getting a decent colour match for the tank was a bit tricky so I just used hycote white. may yet matt black it if I keep it anyway. its looks are something of an acquired taste, but its definitely growing on me. plus it was a piece of wee to wheelie up the garden from the shed...

Also, I think you forgot to put the gasket back in the engine

thats a head gasket for a 4cyl bike stupid

bloody thing!! they don't do seal kits for rear master cylinders for the xrt - all he had was another knackered master cylinder or 60 quid for a new one

managed to make one decent one out of mine and the knackered one - took it up the road only to find no front brake (fork oil spillage on the disk I hadnt noticed), then the electrics all cut out. Luckily just a loose connection behind the fuse box so cleaned up the brake pads and disc, sort the wiring and fingers crossed its all set to pass the MOT tomorrow. eventually finished at about 11.15 this evening

i've officially got a proper fugly motorbike on the road now

couple of advisory points but otherwise no probs! great fun up to about 80mph but struggles much past that, but feels really chuckable!!

although I may have run out of petrol on the way to the test station

apparently 4 quids worth of fuel in a plastic can aint enough to take it much past reserve.

I've got my MOT Saturday afternoon now ..... taxed the bike yesterday and noticed the MOT runs out tomorrow

Glad it past mate,MOT's can be nervous times.........i know i was
when i took the CBR in for one - i was 99.9% certain it was gonna
fail,so i practically fell over in the garage when the guy told me it
had past!

Nowt wrong with a trailie,even a big one like that,just think of the
bottom-end torque.

I can't say i've ever seen one of those,they must be pretty rare!

Can't argue about it being ugly, what were they doing after making the Nordwest & Saturno look so good? Good luck with the teething problems.

its pre-pre nordwest - its the bike that came before the rc600. definitely had more than its share of ugly pills though.

teething problems got a little worse on Sunday when I lost a screw through a hole in a carb slide, straight into the inlet port

engine out, head off job so its going back together again at the moment.

It was running pretty lean before though - lot of surging between 3.5 - 5k revs and struggled at the top end so I've raised the needles a bit and lowered the float height a bit. hopefully when its back in one piece it should run even better.

I can really see why anyone would get into riding these big trailies though - rode it back from Ashburton through Totnes to Paignton the other day - it was an absolute riot!! you can really take the piss on it, and its great being able to see straight over hedges!!
