Toseland to Tech 3

Post by Little Loris »

Looks like JT finally succumbed to Tech 3. Partnering Colin Edwards maybe? Hopefully they'll be more competitive than this year in 2008!! Please don't be another James Ellison.

Need to know a lot more of the details before any judgement can be made. Will he have Edwards as a partner or will it be Lorenzo (seeing as Rossi apparantly hates Lorenzo).

I don't beleive anyone will have the same spec bike as Rossi though. Also a lot will depend on the tyres. Dunlop are apparantly leaving motoGP and rumours say they will run Michelins- judging by Toselands showing at Suzuka on Michelins he may have some adjusting to do!!

Other side of the story: could he afford to turn it down? I'd say no. He's done everything he can in WSB (assuming he wins the title this year). If he flops in GP's he can always find a decent ride in WSB or at worse BSB.

just read this on another site.

This just in from Yamaha:
Tech 3 Yamaha would like to announce that it has secured the services of James Toseland for the 2008 season. The British rider will begin his MotoGP career with the Yamaha factory supported organisation next year.

Toseland – who is currently leading the Superbike World Championship by 43 points – has already proved his racing credentials. He was the youngest ever World Superbike Champion in 2004 and is aiming to secure the title once again this season.

“I am delighted to have secured a rider of James’ calibre and am looking forward to working with him,” says Team Principal Herve Poncharal. “Procuring James is a major coup for Tech 3 Yamaha and for the MotoGP championship in extending our reach into Northern Europe. It is an exciting time for us all and I am certain that he will be an integral part of the team’s future.”

Further details, including James’ team structure will be announced in due course.

Comment from JT

Following weeks of speculation, James Toseland would like to confirm that he will not continue to ride in the Superbike World Championship® in 2008. The British rider has decided to pursue his MotoGP ambitions next season.
Confirmation of the decision at this early stage in the season enables a much wider window of opportunity for the HANNspree Ten Kate Honda team to secure a high calibre replacement. However, the main focus for James for the remainder of the 2007 series is securing the championship title.

“I would like to thank the team for all of their help and support,” says James. “I have enjoyed two of the best years of my racing career with Ten Kate and Honda, and HANNspree has been a fantastic sponsor this year. I could not have achieved as much as I have without the team’s assistance and expertise and I remain 100 per cent committed to securing the title for them this year. I would like to wish them the best of luck for the future.”

James would prefer not to discuss future matters at this time while he concentrates on the task at hand. He respectfully requests that the media honours his decision.

I think it's a good move for JT as rumor has it he will be on Bridgestones as well.

Assuming Rossi keeps Michelin and with Yamahas decision to upgrade TECH3 to factory status, is it not correct to assume they will be running Michelins too?? Would make more sense to me.

Or are yamaha going to be a bit clever and run one team on michelin and the other on bridgestone! That way there always gonna have one set of tyres working!

bad move for jt i think, would have been a good move if he had bridgestones. i think that michelin have had their day just like in formula 1

the worst of the three options available to him, hannspree gresini have been my choice followed by the pramac team then the tech3 bike lastly. only 1 person has been able to ride that bike consistently and thats rossi. edwards was a awesome double wsbk champ and he cant do it and i cant see toseland as he has no 125/250gp experience
