Last time the fuel got to £1 the lorry drivers came to the rescue and did some blockades. I know this out a lot of us out for a few weeks but it was worth it. I know there's a few lorry drivers on here and I was woundering if anything along the same line is planed, cos lets face it the governmant are taking the piss and it's nothing to do with the environmant like they say

Can't think why the farmers/hauliers are holding back... had the desired effect last time and it works every time with the French

After the 2000 protests/crisis the government made new laws. Its now illegal to block filling stations, refineries or storage depots and also to block the road network or participate in drive slow protests with immediate confiscation of vehicles for starters – that’s why lorry drivers aren’t carrying it out.
They will have to considerer other ways to concentrate the Governments mind.
Also on the A39 East of Bridgwater today, Greenaways was £1.13 for Diesel and Cannington f/s was £1.08 for petrol and £115 for Diesel - That’s £5.22 per Gallon

Big problem being for our hauliers is the amount of foreign trucks running here with cheap diesel, every truck that crosses the channel i reckon bring an average 1000-1500 litres of fuel with them, so this short sighted government are losing millions in taxes a day, reduce the price of diesel so it is cheaper than the rest of europe and the foreigners will buy diesel here so more tax will come in, but i am only a thick truck driver so i am wasting my time trying to tell these highly educated bunch of ministers about it, I remember about 15 years ago due to the price of fuel and the strength of the pound against foreign currencies diesel was cheaper in england than europe, all the trucks where arriving with empty fuel tanks and filling up on arrival, and filling up before leaving. now you get a cheap day return with a tractor unit on sundays on the tunnel just to go and fill up with diesel in france,

I remember that. Cause the French (again) were draining truckers tanks of cheap excess fuel coming up from Italy, so they couldn't drive through France without filling up and contributing to road duty etc.
Mind you we do the same when racing abroad.
Filled-up the truck and all the spare drums from a tanker in a lay-by in Poland. Got us down to Portugal and back to Donington WSB for something like 19p/lt.
Happy times.

So we can't block the roads or petrol stations? Marching on the houses of parliament never seems to do any good so thats out too I guess.
I would suggest a day or two's boycott of the pumps but I wonder if anyone would actually do this.
Perhaps a drive just under the limit day? Everyone drives at 50-60 on motorways? Whatever they feel on nationals, maybe 30 and 15 in 30's. I know this is playing into the coppers hands, but think how many people are in a rush and don't you get annoyed when your behind someone on the motorway doing this speed? It's not slow, but just enough to annoy. Perhaps, 6th gear and a percent of the reve range? Say 30%? Though I do realise this will result in many people doing different speeds.
I do feel if enough people protested in the protests like truckers etc did the police etc wouldn't have much choice as they wouldn't have the man power nor the space in the stations. I know I would join the protest.

The truckers should just stop movement of freight by not driving at all for a few days. No law against that! The country cann't go for long without movement of goods (food to supermarkets, petrol to stations etc) They could all be sick on the same days and self certify themselves. Nothing wrong with that!

all those oldies don't get pulled for driving too slow.
basially lets face it - THE GOVERNMENT ARE ALL ROBBING b'stards. they will take our money no matter what, if the drop the fuel price, the road tax goes up. its the one thing that they know we can't do without so can charge what they want.
i think we are doomed to suffer in silence, whenever someone does raise a voice the government turns round and threatens army action and then outlaws the method of protest. while at the same time claiming to be acting in the publics interest - how?
the ruling bodies know they are doing us wrong by the simple task of bullying us into submission.
come the revolution..............

The thing is, it's not the fuel duty that has caused the rise in price, but rather the basic cost of crude oil because the emerging eastern nations (India & China) are devouring ever more reserves and squeezing the market, already kept at an artificial level because the OPEC nations carefully control how much is released.
Yes duty is quite high, but most other (european) nations are catching up now
It always amuses me when people call the government "robbing b*stards" .... frequently followed by complaints about poor roads, poor healthcare, poor education facilities, poor wages for public sector employees, etc., .... If the government doesn't raise money via taxes, exactly how are all these things to be paid for
To be honest, despite all the moaning, what the average citizen gets, for the level of spend contributed, compares quite favourably to other equivalent countries when compared to overall income levels and what "free" facilities are provided ..... step up the old "abused, single parent, ethnic minority, questionable sexuality" adages ..... Whilst we may not personally use many of the facilities public services provide, we are generally bl**dy glad of it being there when we do want it, whether that be police/fire/ambulance, income support, child benefit, or even the local swimming pool........
What I complain about is not the level of taxation expenditure per se, but the amount of it swallowed up in uneccessary levels of beurocracy rather than going to the point of need, or seemed !squandering" of the money etter spent eslewhere - easy to find money for painting bus lanes / installing taffic lights at roundabouts which work better without them, etc., rather than filing potholes & proper resurfacing ...
Oooops, sorry, think I'll go have a quiet lie down now .....

Might be being thick here..but isn,t oil bought in dollars!!!
So wouldn,t that mean that this country is only paying half the rate it was!!
IE $2 dollars to the pound..maybe i,m wrong but always feel that we get shafted in this country..

They keep saying it's because of the price of oil but does it go down when oil does?
As for tax where does it go. Yes we have all the things Moosy was on about but they're getting worse. I think some of it goes into a pot and pops up in the budget just before election day, as for the rest who knows.
I don't mind paying taxes as long as it's used properly. They keep going up but the country never seems to improve.
I also think that things like the NHS are purposly being neglected so that the government have an excuse to privatise.
Back to fuel, if they're not carefull it will end up costing because people will be out of work due to not being eble to get there or redundance form lorry firms etc
