Martial Arts Clubs in Exeter

Post by hksooie1 »

Question for the exeter locals, preferably in the whipton area. I'm looking for a decent martial arts club in the area for my girlfriends daughter to attend. More towards the karate side of things. More traditional where they don't try and charge you and arm and a leg in monthly subscriptions whether you turn up or not! What ever happened to paying for your lesson as you walk through the door!?

My son attends a good, family friendly Tae Kwon Do club at Broadclyst, and you might like to PM Mavernick about his Swift-Tae Kwon Do club ...... :D

Don't know about Karate though .... :?

As with everything these days, sadly we have to cover our a$$e$...

We have to have so many Insurances, licences, certification and pay extortionate hall hire charges, that we have to charge upfront...

That said, I can state and confirm with confidence that our club is by far the cheapest in Exeter, offering the same syllabus as the more expensive clubs... therein lies my reason for starting the club 8 years ago.

Have a look at my website for more details...

thanks for the info guys. I would do the instructing myself, but am away all week(still in the military). Been a Lau Gar instructor for many years now and used to run my clubs on base, so probably benefited from not having to worry about hall fees. But I'm prob old fashioned in just charging people for the lessons they turn up for. Might have to dust off the instructor suit and start a class one of these days!

How old is your girlfrinds daughter? I know Jonny Black does lots of martial arts classes for a range of ages. Not sure about prices but contact him at Wonford Sports Centre on 01392 253453. Worth asking.

it might be worth looking at the BKKU American Kenpo karate studio on York Road - I used to train under an affiliate club a few years ago, and went to York Road on quite a few occasions as well as grading there. Used to be a good bunch of people - friendly bunch, good instructors, not too expensive - and a good system to learn as well IMO
