it was a CBR400 and whilst I couldn't possibly comment on whether or not it was restricted I should point out that the 33bhp restriction does not have connected withit any maximum speed limit and will obviously vary from bike to bike. I have personally seen a restricted bike still be capable of doing 110-115mph so with a change to gearing and perhaps some lightening who knows what top speed you could reach.

In this case the individuals may have been stupid and were definately caught during a moment of madness but as Jak points out we've all had our moments and anyone who says they've never broken the speed limit is a bloody liar.

I would say they got a fair punishment and I certainly would not like to have seen any stronger sentence given out to 2 otherwise law abiding citizens on what is it has to be said quite inconclusive evidence.

Personally I think the whole attitude towards speeding these days is completely ridiculous and over the top. Sure, inappropriate speeding can cause/worsen accidents, but i don't believe for one second some of the BS that gets batted about - I figure it's largely propaganda to justify the robbing scum speed cameras, which has been adopted and championed by well intentioned, but sadly misguided do-gooders

I've ridden quite a few 33BHP restricted bikes over the years including a GSXR750 SRAD, and a Fireblade - I know, it's wrong, but they weren't mine, I just fitted the kits - and I've always found they struggle to do much more than 100mph. I also had a CBR400 on a 33BHP restriction when I first passed my test, and that did about 100mph aswell, so I'm guessing it may well be unrestricted.

In which case he's an EVEN BIGGER CRIMINAL, and should be persecuted to the full extent of the law. It's OUTRAGEOUS..... Kids these days.........No Respect........waffle, moan, whinge.......

i cant help but think what he was doing is less dangerous than a car doing 50 in a 30. Which ive seen police cars do loads of times without the blues and twos.

I think both of them should be shot until they are completely dead. Its the first time anyone has ever ridden at that speed and we need to send out a message to the young people of this country that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.

Also, anyone who was out for a ride with those guys that night should also be shot! Just because they could!

Well I hope he learns 3 leasons here:

1) If your going to brake the speed limits you need to be more aware. not just for safty of your self and others around you BUT for people watching you

2) Don't admit to anything at the time.

3) Don't defend your self in court. as if they did not have any real evidence on what speed he was doing, and if they said he was ridding a Yamaha CDR 400 (which is a cd rom drive) a good lawyer could have got it thrown out evan affter he had admited to it at the time.

I'm not defending anyone who brakes the law. but there semes to be alot of picking on bikers for trvling at high speeds. And I can not see how travling at 126mph is any more Dangerous then travling at 70mph as long as you are paying attention to the road and other users. Infact you will probally be paying more attention then then what you would be doing 70mph going in a straight line and your mind starting to drift.

I think if you are going to ride at that speed then take the consequences of your actions which could include fines, bans, accidents or the death of other people. It happens. We all do it. We just gotta accept the consequences if we do it on the road.

Seems to me that the 2 lads who got done have just kept their heads down and got on with it. Gotta give em respect for not whinging. Well done lads. I know at least one of them visits this site.

I really don't think 126mph is reckless at all. I figure it's all relative, time, place, vehicle etc.

126mph down the high street at midday is reckless, but 126mph on an empty dual carriageway in the evening is hardly what I'd call reckless. In fact I don't think that's particularly excessive at all given the circumstances.

But hey, that's just my opinion, some people will say i'm a criminal just for thinking that way, but that's their opinion, and they can keep it

I'd say that the long arm of the law has missed a major point here, the fact pointed out quickly enough on the forum that a restricted bike would in now way be able to do those sorts of speeds (my girlfriend has a restricted CBR600FX and after a long run up with my chin on the tank it eventually crept up to 104mph on the clock (an experiment in the name of science, see ) and there's no way that it'd be able to outrun a police car, especially a traffic division vehicle). Once again we see the fallibility of an unenforceable law - any traffic cop with half a brain would have sussed the implausibility of a restricted bike doing "in excess of 126mph" and had it impounded for a dyno test and voilà! the first test case on someone breaching their A2 licence conditions - unless it's happened before, but I've certainly not heard of it so far...
