clutch cable..key? help? :)
heyup, was riding out to exeter airport for my first 12 hour shift the yestreday morning
*cringgee*.. ..was just as i was coming of a roundabout my clutch cable snapped which left me crunching my gears around to get the last mile to the airport before i stalled or had to stop at lights etc..finally got there ...where i found my key was jammed/frozen in the bike! haha so i had to leave my ignition on.. an hope it was still ther later! ..now i have the problem of a broken bike tht needs to work before monday! i've managed to bend my only key back..tht works now, but i've been around to various bike parts shops trying to find some cable i could cut down ..but no luck so far. they have my cable on the net with all the fittings etc but not gonna be here by 7am on monday.. anyone know wt i can do to get me through till i can get the proper cable?..bering in mind i need to attatch some nipples onto it somhow haha cheersss

Re: clutch cable..key? help? :)
couple garages round here sell little universal cable kits but they aren't that brilliant, theres a last resort anyway - find a universal one and cut it to size etc. lots of faffing about..

Re: clutch cable..key? help? :)
I can't think of any of the usual places that open on a Sunday that sell parts ...... perhaps somewhere like "Greenlane" opposite Bridge might
take the old cable with you and see if you can match one up ..... so long as it's longer, the overall length doesn't matter, but try and get one with the same "free" cable length.
A few places used to do "universal" kits with a selection of screw-on nipples (oo-err
) and that might be your best bet ...... which end has the cable broken - bars or engine - and what does the missing nipple look like? If you can get a screw-on nipple you might be able to re-use the existing cable, and if it's gone at the engine end and has plenty of space around the actuating arm you might be able to "bodge" a temporary nipple by drilling through a bolt and clamping it with a nut (like and old-fashioned bicycle brake). Actually - a bicycle shop just might be able to help re. the cable, seeing as it's only a small bike
As a final resort, if you know someone with a welder, they might be able to create enough of a nipple (with some effort and filing/shaping) to get you out of trouble.
Alternatively, dig out the bicycle

Re: clutch cable..key? help? :)
it broke at the handle bar end. had been rubbing where it bends and all the strands had frayed out... the nipple's one of the fat-off cyclinder ones. if all ese fails i suppose i could take one off me push bike brakes and use that just for monday hahaTLS-Moose wrote:I can't think of any of the usual places that open on a Sunday that sell parts ...... perhaps somewhere like "Greenlane" opposite Bridge mighttake the old cable with you and see if you can match one up ..... so long as it's longer, the overall length doesn't matter, but try and get one with the same "free" cable length.

Re: clutch cable..key? help? :)
A motorcycle cop comes across two bikers. One biker has two fingers up the ass of the other.
" What the hell are you doing?" asks the cop
" My buddy here's got some food stuck and is choking," says the one biker, "I'm trying to make him sick."
"You're meant to stick your fingers down his throat, not up his ass," replies the cop.
The first biker says, "Yeah, I know, but you get better results if you stick them up his ass first..."
