Best way to deal with a troll, short of banning them from the site?

Simply ignore everything they post and never respond to them, or just respond with "troll".

The whole point about trolls is they need the attention from peoples responses, arguing with them is just giving them what they desire, so if everyone ignored them there'd be no problem.

Trolls are only ever detrimental to a forum, never beneficial.
It seems to most perhaps reasonable to give a bit of latitude, perhaps it will get over it and so on. Never happens.
Even if you are having a bit of fun with it now, pretty soon you will find it a very tiresome creature.
In the meantime, expect it to dominate threads to the detriment of other users.
This one is just as odious as any other, it should not be treated with any kind of respect, like all trolls, it is waiting for you to give it an opportunity to demonstrate it's quite massive intellect, breadth of experience, and general superiority over all others.
Offline, in real life, expect this troll not to have enough about it to pour p iss out of a shoe even if the instructions are printed on the heel.

Just my opinion of trolls.

Ok so I might just kinda just be a little bit guilty of feeding the last 2 just a little bit   But I am poorly and bored

Would it not be better as well as just writing troll to their every post just to have a new site rule for newbies that if they become a troll within the first, say month they just get banned :? They last few have kicked off with a week of joining.

i think you will find blue that trolls join as trolls, they don't become them. They are like boils, start off as an irritance then grow, fester and eventually have to be fcuked up and lanced to be rid of. It's one of the internets less appealing attributes.

Yeah Yeah.

So far everything I've posted has attracted massive response.

People would just ignore if they thought it was BS.

Check out my real biker thread, now on nine pages :D

People always respond in that way when you hit a nerve.

They could of course have ignored it and let it die a death, but they didn't.

I rest my case

You see, that's what I don't quite understand. Why would you want to hit a nerve? SWB is brilliant for insight, advice, and friendly banter. Not arguing. No good comes from 'hitting nerves'. It serves only to incense other members.

I agree with what seems to be the majority verdict - that if inciting pointless argument is your aim, then it's best done elsewhere.
