You are of course welcome along to any Southwestbikers rideout, however your bike must be in good mechanical order (we don’t want anything falling off of it including you), taxed and have a current MOT. You must have a valid motorcycle licence and current motor insurance. You are in charge of your motorcycle at all times and SWB will not accept any responsibility for actions you take or any accidents you may have. Always ride within your own capabilities and do not put others at risk. Remember, while you are on a Southwestbikers rideout you are representing the site and what it stands for.
Thank-you.
Don't forget......ANYONE can organise and run a rideout.

I nearly came off there! But then again I should have stuck back with him all the way until we had all caught up, bad swag hope all is ok Taz.

Albie don't feel bad about it.
The important thing is that he is going to be ok, it's a shame this has happened and hopefully we can all learn from it and do things differently going forward.

omg I've been hearing about todays ride out all day.. as I was slaving over ovens/grills, then hearing how good the weather was.. as I was scrubbing away at a greasy canopy. :O Glad the weather worked out for you guys and I'm sorry I missed this one. If there are any ride outs on mondays or tuesdays, or anyone heading to bike nights I'm usually free then.
And Taz! Hope you have a speedy recovery, and if there's anything I can do let me know!
Albie, as Simon says, you did nothing wrong. No single individual holds responsibility. Today was run exactly the same as it has been many times before, with no problems at all .......
I think there were a series of coincidental things that made todays ride a little different from previous ones, and perhaps Simon and I need a little chat to learn some lessons from todays ride.

Don't care who you are, how much you have, how powerful you are. You still sit on the toilet with your pants around your ankles. Yep, it's a level playing field..

Its a sad thing that happened and I know Chris personally, but all said and done its nobodys fault. No one is responsibale for anybody elses riding apsrt from themselves. Weather in a group of a few, a couple out as buddies or out on your own the only person responsible for keeping them on 2 wheels is the person holding the handlebars.
No fingers should be pointed either now or in the future as to how anybody rode, why JM's didnt wait for the TEC to come past before riding on or how anybody else rode, Its was an unfortunate accident and nobody was to blame.

The first paragraph I agree with entirely. Only one person has the accident - thats the person on the machine in question.
Yesterday did, however, serve as a reminder to us that we need to tighten up and/or re-affirm some procedures and group riding "ettiquette".

From where I was sat everything seemed to be working well. Everyone together up until Chris came off and we went looking for him.
I may not have seen some things obviously.
We can't stop people coming off, but we can stop riders being alone. We could make sure no rider is ever alone by riding in a minimum of two bikes per group??
Or lists of phone numbers on file somewhere?
On a group ride we are all members of a small team, we are responsilble for our team mates and them to you too. Just like my rugby team.. And if the team changes we all need to know what to do, like a substitution.
So if the JM is waiting for the TEC to come through and the TEC does't show - how does the JM then contact those ahead to let them know there's a problem and to stop & wait or send someone back to go and look for the TEC? Presumably what happened yesterday was after waiting for a reasonable time the last JM came forward to the next JM and let them know the TEC hadn't come through?
Dont really know how it works but would it not be easier for the junction marker to go back when the tec dont arrive?the next marker will still be where he needs to be then?Like everyone says the accident was no bodys fault but a man should never be left behind.
we are in the process of trying to come up with a simple set of guide lines for group rideouts.
roles and requirements for TEC, roles and requirements for JM etc.
nothing major, just some helpful pointers for future large number rideouts
on a positve note - the system we were using did work, it was noticed that chris was missing and people reported this and were despatched back to try and locate him.
it's just a case of making a few tweaks to make the system run even better.
