What Happened...

Shit happened, seriously, well cow poo, or it could have been tractor Diesel, slurry, general dirt from the fields.

Riding along on Saturday, taunton, Exmoor, dunster, porlock, lynmouth, brainstaple, Torrington, south molton. lovely weather great roads, good fun.

On the route home, on the road to Bideford, was going along B3227 and it started raining on and off. Not enough to clean the roads just enough to mix the pre-prepared aforementioned crap on the quite frankly abysmal road surface to make seem like the Anti-matter version of shellgrip.

I just touched my brake to steady the bike and the front went. Let me empathise, touch, like the lightest touch you could do and still move the brake lever.

Another guy went down at the same spot a short while later (he's ok which is good) when he slowed down to park in a layby. So shows just how bad the road was. The police said the road had no grip.

On the other hand it managed to make a pretty good effort of shredding my leathers on my way to the hedge on the other side of the road after a "fun" slide along the road thinking "f...k I hope there isn't a car coming". Managed to give my helmet a good bash on the way I can tell you. Not going to be doing that again for a while with my hand the state its in... :-)

I think ill be sticking to leathers in the future as whilst ive got broken bones and bruises I have no gravel rash apart from a slight graze on my knee. The armour on the Jacket worked. I have no bruising on either shoulder, despite the state of my leathers. I guess just the compressive force of my initial kick off did the real damage.

Ah, final tally...

One Gsxr written off, a bone broken in right hand, and collar bone in two places.

Got an op this tues to put a plate in. Hopefully ill start healing when I get that and can start looking for another bike. :-)

Thanks for the messages.

Finally be careful when it raining when its been dry for a while. The Gsxr manual actually says to " Pull over and wait a few minutes until this oil film is washed away before riding". If there had been a decent Cream-Tea place nearby I might have.

No I'm right handed, but surprised by how much you rely on having the other one, I'm just having some toast, can't have butter because I can't grip the dish
I drove home changing gear with my good arm, and went to Musgrove for treatment (I knew they wouldn't let me drive if I'd gone to the local hospital)
and I drive for a living so just a little incapablefor a few weeks.
It appears that the second session of a trackday is the one I should sit out. Highsided coming out of the banked corner.
One minute I'm happily Knee down, the next I'm still in a racing crouch only about 2 feet above the bike, the rear started to slide then gripped and threw me over the top.
Landed on my hand, rolled a bit then slid along the tarmac towards safety when the bike decided it hadn't finished with me and twatted me in the arse just to make sure. =))
Boots and Gloves ok, helmet I think is ok, didn't really connect with my head, so I'll get it checked out when I'm mobile again. And not had a good look at my leathers, so fingers crossed there, but at least they didn't cut them off this time.

They are quite keen to cut things off arent they?

The paramedic was almost pleading to do some cutting. I let him cut the old fleece i had on just to keep him happy.

Im in Musgrove. How long till hand gets better?

Get out of there as soon as you can, the ward I was in had an outbreak of norovirus, and was closed I was lucky to be discharged, and just spoken to the ward they've had 2 more cases.
They reckon they'll take the wire out in 4 weeks, then another 2 weeks in plaster, them physio.
Its driving me mad already.
