Camp sites

Hi guys/gal's, well now that the weather is on the turn. and its time to get out and about, you know ride new roads meet new ppl.........so whats the gen on campsites in your area, whats the good, the bad....and the ffs just dont go there.

and i suppose you could include b&b's in this post too

oh.....looks like theres no campsites or b&bs in the southwest then.....so much for southern hospitality

Are you looking for any area in particular...

The only campsite that I've heard is any good in Plymouth is Riverside Caravan Park

havent been camping at set sites around devon before, we usually just find a quiet spot on Dartmoor and pitch up if we're camping around here. Interested to hear any bike friendly places around cornwall though as we're planning some weekends down there through the summer.

i was asked to leave a camp site down at parr in cornwall, because i arrived there to visit one of their static caravan owners on a bike. apparently bikes were banned from the site altogether! I was asked to either leave the bike outside the camp in the street, or to leave the site. now thats great bike-friendly hospitality

There are lots of campsites down in the southwest. Plymouth isn't really known for it's campsites though. What you should do if you're planning a camping trip down to the South West is to strap a tent to your bike and head down to where you want to go. When you get to your destination then ask around for where the local camp sites are. If you know which area you are going to head for you can look online to find out addresses before you leave. If you were going to Cornwall, for example, you could go to this website

In my opinion, one of the best parts about camping is the uncertainty of trying somewhere new....especially when it turns out to be an excellent location.

(P.S. I think the real reason you didn't get many replies is cos nobody on here likes camping !!! ;) )

Only stayed at one campsite in Cornwall and that was The First and Last campsite which is about 2 miles from lands End. They didn't mind the fact that I was on a motorbike. Excellent location and a really nice pub too (The First and Last Inn would you believe !!)

cheers for that frank, will make a note of that one. close to a pub too? what more do you need

If you like camping and pubs, the Double Locks in Exeter used to be great for that - free camping in the field behind the back of the pub, and decent real beer in casks too. never had any complaints about bikes there either. Gets busy with students in the summer and especially on bank holidays though

i gather the first and last pub and campsite is okay

Twas where the First and last MCC used to go
and where it's name came from

I understood that the landowner buggered around when the club tried to run a rally
so the club left and no rally

Me and Blubird had a nice long weekend in Polperro last years. We didn't book just tried a few different campsites - first two we tried were a bit funny with us because we were on a bike but we found an excellent site in the end. Might go again this year actually - would anyone be up for a weekends camping/piss up in cornwall ??

Thanks for the input guy's and gal's, when are you thinking of going to cornwall?. i might just be a player for that...................years ago when i was a kid i went to a place called bigbury on sea......i would like to go back there again, so does anyone have any info on the place?

i'd be up for a weekends camping in cornwall at some point, long as its a camp site where they let you have a big fire

actually a friend did mention a biker friendly farmer near Bude that is happy to let people use his field for camping for a few quid, and will even deliver a trailer of logs for burning if asked

bigbury is where burgh island and the sea tractor is isnt it?

thats the very place mate.....we were on holiday in a caravan there, i just wonder is the site is still there and do they allow camping, if not then a b&b is an option too
