SO YOUR BIKE WON'T START EH!!

this might sound like a silly question but what kind of bang was it. Reading that it sounds like you just had a backfire from unburnt fuel in the exhaust., which may or maynot be related to it not starting.

Unless your saying the engine went bang not the exhaust????

Andrew I asked that question the in the other thread, I cant remember the answer

But it sounds very similar to when my regulator/rectifier went.

Because something is draining the system when you press the starter.....actually, is the rectifier wires ok?

And when bump starting, it really helps having someone to keep pushing as the momentom of the bike keeps up.......if that makes sense!

yeah it was backfire which i get all the time anyway but it just so happens it backfired and then immidiatly cut out

i did check the rectifier cables and nothing was burnt out but like you say it could be thhat then

do you know anyone with an R6 that you can borrow there rectifier?

I nicked dodgys to check if mine was faulty, so you then dont end up buying parts for no reason.

a rectifier is a very easy part to test.

You need to get a multimeter put it on the Ohms (resistance) setting and you should find one way it has a high resistance and the other way it has a low resistance - the rectifier is just a diode.

I have a multimeter if u want mate - could also use this to check all the fuses.

What ever you do mate, don't go looking at the engine - at the moment the most likely cause is electrical.

Also whatever you do don't take it to a bike shop to get ripped off, I be happy to travel to NA and fix it rather than u havingto give money away over a simple fault.

well andrew come up last night, arrived about 7 and left about 10.30 poor lad, he knows his stuff though tested everything and then we tried bump starting it, (killed me that did) and then pulled the bike to pieces and then hooray we think we found the problem(ok i say we

andrew did everything and i held the lead light

)the starter was shorting out

so a 2nd hand one on the way

andrew today, has been shopping around for me, the blokes a legend

and he says if i pick it up friday he is going to fit it for me

please be up standing for andrew

OH SH1T the pressures on now, god i hope my fault diagnosis is correct or i'm going to look like a right tw4t.

Got to say its interesting working on a different bike but nerve racking when it don't belong to you. Couldn't believe how much of a pain it is to get the R6 carbs off (then again it would prob only be a two minute job if i had the long reach allen key thats required)

Chris as a triumph rider i'm only able to fix bikes cleaning them is alien to me afterall u can't polish a turd

you cant polish a turd but you can wrap it up in plastic ;)

did it start OK when you tried bump-starting it then?
