WTF

Post by andrew »

What the hell is happening to this site???

I don't log on for a few days then the next thing i know we have half a dozen threads of people b*tching

First because soe precious signatures/avatars are being deleted. And then about the number of posts non-members have.

Now i realise these things maybe a little bit annoying but really people get a life. I thought the purpose of swb was to use the internet as a medium through which we could talk about motorcycling NOT so that motorcycling could be used as medium through which we all get to play on the internet.

Now this site is run and maintained by some throroughly nice people (and age) they don't get paid for it. Maybe I've misunderstood but surely these type of forums are intended for us to swap information, help each other out, arrange meets and generally enhance our motorcycling if so who really gives a flying f8ck if you have a pretty little picture at the bottom of your post - and why would u care if another guy isn't a paid up member thats down to him surely u pay your money because its the right thing to do not just because everyone else does it (btw my cheques in the post  ).

Come on guys 99% of people on this site are great people lets not lose sight of why this forum is here.
so it turns out.........sometime i do give a f*ck

Why should i pay to fund posts written people too tight to cough up £5? - Whether what they're writing is valid or not, i think capping the number of posts that can be written by tight gits is a good idea.
Without the membership money, this site couldn't exist. So whats wrong with encouraging people to pay

Its not a lot of money!

We are customers of the site, most of us paid money to be members.

Most of us have taken an active part in recruiting new members. Trying to promote the site.

I tried to point out to Dave in a private PM that it was file size not the picture size that was important. The reply I received was to be called names by Dave, on the site. One sig was re-sized not just removed with out notice. That file size is now over twice what it was before.

So its not had any effect on speeding up the site, but the way its been done has upset a lot of people.

Its all about the way things have been done rather than what has been done.

You pay for the stickers, the membership and to help fund all the hard work put in by dave and the moderators. Now everyone that uses the site regularly should feel a compunction to pay the mebership fee but whether they do or not is nothing to do with you.

I can't help but feel that worrying about non-members posts and signatures/avatars is a bit petty - who really cares and what the hell has it got to do with motorcycling.

Andrew I agree but why do Admin not me put this comment at the bottom of my posts as you said a bit petty.
On the membership thing how is it gone up 100% without even telling the Mods of the increase let alone the members. Now I still think it is not a huge sum of money but put more in the members area to encourage people to join and see what goes on. As you know yourselve you don't have to pay to use the site to it's full.

Okay, so we don't limit the posts!?! What incentive is there to join and pay? If no one pays the website shuts down - I care because i don't want the website to shut down. Not being petty, just can't understand how people either can't be arsed or don't want to pay the £5.

There was a poll about increasing the membership fee months ago

The site is funded by Dave and always has been - it's only fairly recently that anyone has given any contribution in the way of membership fees

Membership gives you access to extra areas and discounts

If people don't want to pay membership so what - I pay because I consider Dave a friend and appreciate what he's done by setting up a FRIENDLY website about BIKES, it's cost him a lot and I'd pay the membership even if I couldn't put up pretty pictures
my mind not only wanders ... sometimes it leaves completely

hey i'm more than happy paying but i was waiting until i meet speedy so i can find out exactly about it and give him the money, how long does the £10 membership last for??? i'd pay ya £15 to help!!!!

and why has some of the sigs gone? macaw where is yours? i understand that the sigs can't contain certain stuff, but why not make it so the non-paying members can only put text in theirs and the members can put that goochy picture!?????

it is an idea

I agree with you Jak but surely the way to go would be post a thread about the increase not even the Mods knew it had increased. as I asked two of them both said it was the first they had not heard about it.
A post saying as from the 1st membership will increase would have saved all this.

Sorry you two but

Members are just as important as the owner of the site.

Both are necessary, if this isn't sorted out it will come back again. Eventually there will be a closed down or a change of owners, or the site will loose members.

It needs sorting out.
