asthmatic kawasaki
hi all,
after some advise on the Kawasaki ZZR1100 D1 (1994). the bike is stock except for exhaust and was running fine for ages, then after a 3000 mile trip around the alps last summer i went to get something from the shops and one the way back it stopped whenever i opened the throttle. so since then i have tried
*the fuel pump
*fuel pump relay
*spark plugs
*fuel
*battery (well fully charge it each time i try it. but new in july)
*checked for tares in the diaphragms
*compression test (all about 100ps on a old leaky gauge)
*fuel treatment (incase of fuel gooing up)
*cleaned all electrical connectors i could find
and still the b****rd will start and idle and purr like a kitten but open the throttle and it just dies and sounds all asthmatic.
other than a match and jerry can what ells can i try.
thanks,
sam.

Have you checked your air filter, that might not be as daft as it sounds, it could be blocked... (and it wasn't on your list)

Have you checked all ignition coils as that could be the cause.
It will run fine untill any load is placed upon the spark, thereby breaking down and not firing right.
As you list spark plugs as one of the items check it may pay to get 1 second hand coil and try it.

Fuel filter, kinked fuel pipe, blocked jets...... do they have throttle position sensors
The D1 is carbed isn't it, so it sounds like the transition from idle to needle/main jets ...... have you had the carbs apart
checked the linkages/cables
Have you taken a plug out after it has stopped? is it wet? (so you know it's getting fuel)
Doe's it just stop stone dead or peter out?

thanks all for suggestions. it has given me something to work on now. i was thinking my next point was the strip and clean and re-set carbs but i am told the kawasaki is a pain to bleed the cooling system on and the carbs have carb heaters on them and i havent seen anything like it before.
but will check breather and replace fuel filter too.
but any how i will not be looking at it till the next dry/warmish weekend as i have no garage.
as for where am i, exmouth. and the only bike shop i know well enough to trust is steve demen in barnstaple. i just seem to have the worst luck in bike shop's.
