[Censored] shit!
i applied, and got through to interview stage and got accused of being a racist because i described something as an accident blackspot instead of a 'hotspot'!
my friend vicky got declined because of the racial equality thing too!
seems that they would prefer to employ a useless rag-head rather than someone with a first class honours degree.

The police have got ridiculous with their political correctness. Was reading in the other day this women went into report a crime, described the criminal as fat and got told off because it was against the police's "appropriate language guide".tobyedmunds wrote:accused of being a racist because i described something as an accident blackspot instead of a 'hotspot'!
I cant stand all this racial equality political correctnesss crap.

Hi Andy
I'm a serving member of the Avon and Somerset.
My advice to you is awlays remember everyone is equal whatever colour race or religion or sex.
Some people have different traditions and cultures, you will ned to be aware of these and try and respect them, however they still live here and are bound by English law.
The Police is a good career with a reasonable pay and prospects.
You will need to be open minded ,tolerant, but firm.
Looking at where you live you will probably be posted to Somerset West District.
Remember not all of Policing is traffic related, you can have a varied career covering lots of different things if you work hard and choose it.
The warning is though, most Police Constables and Sergeants do the job because they feel they have something to give for the better of society, and do it for the right reasons. Most of the middle to high ranking officers are self centred and politically motivated. This breeds frustration and resentment, and distrust. Those feelings are simmering below the surface of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary at the moment.
If after reading this you stil want to do it. Then go for it give it a go, you may even enjoy it.

Kev,
Did you have an ad downstairs near the kitchen selling an R6?
You were pointed out to me by "Tex" whilst i was there.
CID?
reply by pm if easier.
I had a run in with Inspector Brown which all officers i asked, agreed, is the biggest [idiot] I have ever met
I will give alot of time and effort for the local bobbys as they are like kev said, decent people that actually want to help people and i take my hate off to them(berrrr-burrrrry cap that is lol)
And Andy,
I say go for it mate, pay starts at 24k now which is much more fair.
Hell of alot of paperwork tho.Id said 50-50 of paperpushing/fighting crime
Try and get to work at Bridgwater Station, such a friendly station to work in with great people surrounding you.I enjoyed every second working with that bunch and still stay in contact with some officers.
Adrenaline is goes wild when someone does a runner or get a chase(rare in these parts tho, bristol is the place to be).....Something i will never experience again and will never forget but glad i did.

the problem the police has is that it has a nasty habit of attracting completely the wrong type of people, the force has a reputation for entrenched racism that it needs to shed - the questioning may well seem a bit over the top but at least in attempting to identify it before they take people on they are taking a step in the right direction.
and certainly anyone who talks about "useless rag-heads" shouldnt be let anywhere near a police uniform.
and its a job which is dependant on your ability to deal with people in a reasonable manner - a first class honours degree means less than nothing if that person is a socially inept bigot.

i worked in oldham for nearly a year, where there we're signs saying 'no white people' and 'arabic only' on the shops, so dont form your opinions just yet.
we are now a society where 1 in 10, yes 10% of the uk population was not born here (yes that includes me). what it doesnt include is illegal immigrants.
bike's gone.... roll on next stage of the masterplan!
