to be honest, if it's your first big bike, you're probably gonna drop it, so shelling out on something new (or nearly new) is a bit of a waste, the fazer 600 or bandit 600 would be good choices, both around 70 bhp i think. Reliability won't be an issue as the fazer uses a de-tuned thundercat engine so it'll last forever, and the bandit you could run using lava instead of oil and it'll keep going

Fazer is a fair whack more powerful than the bandit!


But out of the two I would have a bandit, more usable power.

if you are crap at mechanical stuff, you had better be rich.

garages aren't cheap and if you are gonna by a newer bike, fuel injection etc then bills could be big.

bikes always need to be tinkered with and set up. if u get a slightly older one you can work your way around it and learn how things work and look so that if you run into problems while out on the road you don't end up right in the shite.

why not wait till you get your license and go take some test rides.

like mav said, the bike will do 30 as easy as 130 - the thing you have to learn to control is your throttle hand. everything else will follow along. you don't need a really fast bike to have fun, just ask steved and varcon, they were running a divvy and er5 but still managed to keep up and learn how the things work.

To be honest i agree with Billy.

I got the GSXR600 K5 day after i passed and i love the bike, have toured on it, firmly got my knee own, taken a tumble etc in the past 12 months, but now i'm thinking something more along the lines of an SV or 600 Bandit might have been a good first bike just to gain more experience before moving onto something more fun

Is all down to personal choice, but don't go to much on the first bike, you will drop it.............

what about rd ,tzr or rs 250. still some around.

ok so there r a few of us ridin with restrictions i ride the mt-03 it had 46bh befor the kit put in so there is very little difrence with it in laura rides a fazer 600 with the kit in (but never tryed it with out the kit )and said it is a good frist bike but the mid range is a bit shit mel rides a unrestricter 400 kwack and can piss all over as at the top end but we both have good accelaration danny has the bandit 600 unrestricted she has had it 5 mths and is board cole has a restricted gsxr k2 and loves it

What about a CBR400 (mini fireblade) or RVF400 (mini RC30) or ZXR400. These bikes are mini versions of superbikes and are well renowned for their handling. They have the supersports ethos and riding position you are looking for without the weight or banzai power of their big brothers. They can be had for little money and have good reliability records.

Mike is right i once rode a cbr 400 and was awsome through the bends
