One very sily question
Hi guys, is there any way how to restrict the 600cc sport bike to be less suicide friendly for a begginer but to has more than 33bhp? To do something with throttle ( some mechanical restriction) or chip or anything? Thans in advance for all answers, im on the point of buying bike next month and i still like only sport bikes with sport riding position, i tried sv650, fz6 and er6f but i dont like it please help with sme info about that restriction, thanx a lot

As you say... Very Silly question...
A bike will only go as fast as you make it go by twisting the throttle... restricted or not...

On a more practical note ..... if it's a carbed bike when the the big manufacturers had to stick to a 100bhp limit for the big bikes they used to stick a block above the slide of a CV carb to prevent it reaching full lift (ZZR1100's, etc.) or alternatively you could place a clamp on the throttle cable to prevent the throttle opening fully.
To be honest though, this will only give a false sense of security ..... as Nick says, it would be far better to learn proper throttle control from the outset, and perhaps start with a smaller bike and work up if you feel you cannot trust yourself to show restraint

Re: One very sily question
My girlfriend has a CBR600FX that came with restrictors - all they are is a set of large washers that sit in the inlet manifold rubbers and have an offset hole of maybe Ø12mm in them, and there was a screw fitted to restrict the throttle slides opening too far as well. The bike was totally unthreatening to ride in a way that makes it safe for a beginner, but it carries all the weight of a fully-grown 600
Do yourself a favour and get a 400, makes much more sense whilst having to comply with this totally absurd ruling (that by the way is virtually impossible for the Police to uphold...

Re: One very sily question
there's lots to choose, have a look on Grey Bike forum
ZXR, CBR, VFR GSXR for sporties, XJR, CB, ZX, for retro's ....
Don't discount 600's though ..... what about SV's, Hornets, Fazer's, GSF, etc.,
.... and I quite like the look of the Yam MT03 for a non-threatening first big bike

Re: One very sily question
so what about fazer 600? Isnt that too much ( 100bhp) [ big difference from supersports?] I know about power bands etc just want to ask about real world driving, thinking about new yamaha xj6 or cheaper 2005 fazer, what do you think
Re: One very sily question
If you are worried about having to much power, then why are you looking at 100+ bhp sports bikes.
Buy a cheapish 600cc commuter or a 400. Not too much power but more than enough to keep you entertained. Get used to the weight power ect, don't care if you drop it, then after you have more experience get whatever you want to get.
Lets face it your not exactly going to need 100bhp for your first big bike are you, and whatever you get its still going to feel like a rocket compared to your R125.
Why exactly do you need a new bike?

Re: One very sily question
I dont need new bike, just want it to be new-ish, using it for fun only and mayby later for some touring. Im afraid that if i buy older bike it will fall apart and i suck in repairing things
I think i will get xj6 though
Re: One very sily question
It does not matter what Bike you get on you should ride to your abilities, every bike has a different feel about it. You have to learn how the bike handles. I have a ZZR1100 and a Triumph 750 Triple very different bikes to ride.
