Just got undertaken while level with a speed camera

Post by Jonny »

okay my 17 year old friend has just passed his test (VFR400R NC21) and we went out for his first ride last night.

Now we were going into Totnes from Dartington (By KEVICCS) and I was positioned on the right tyre track of my lane. Slowed down to 25 (I dont know how accurate my speedo is so I make extra sure) and pointed to the speed camera (its slighly concealed in the hedge). Now he thought I was waving him past, so undertook me.

I looked back to see the camera flash us.

He has just brought this bike and hasnt even sent off the V5

So what does all this mean? Do you lads think the camera will pick me up as speeding?

When the camera flashed I was at the begginging of the 'white stripes' whereas my 'friend' was ahead of me.

You won't get done for speeding if you wasn;t speeding, simple as.

They use the stripes to verify your speed, since you were behind him you'll be fine. your mate however, is a gimp.

I remember reading about this problem in an old copy of surperbikes a few years ago
Basically they sent the ticket to the guy who was on the outside he is the 1 that should have been overtaking but he said it was the guy on the inside. Who in turn said it was'nt him in the end they just could not prove who it was and gave up trying to get the fine.

did yuo get 1 or 2 flashes cos if it wa only one it is a good chance it nly took one pic and they need 2 too prove the speed on the lines, some peole reckon 1 flash is just to frighten peiople slightly over the limit

Mate, no matter what you thought you saw - there were two flashes.

They measure the distance you've travelled between each flash, the lines aren't even used unless you dispute it - they can then use the lines in court for photographic evidence, that everyone can understand (Such as the jury).

Read it all on a site about Gatsos.

Oh, plus you weren't speeding, you wouldn't get done, but your mate was speeding - and has allowed photographic evidence of him undertaking, which is also illegal. You've got nothing to worry about though, just because they got your plate doesn't mean you're in the wrong mate.
